Laser removal of lash line and eyeliner PMU: is it safe for the eyes

The lash line has blurred, the eyeliner turned blue, or you simply don't like the shape. Here is how eyelid PMU is removed, how we protect your eyes and what to expect afterwards.

When removal is needed

  • the pigment has migrated and the eyelid looks "smudged" or shadowed;
  • the liner has turned blue or greenish;
  • the liner tail has dropped and makes you look tired;
  • the line is too thick, uneven or asymmetric;
  • you want a different style — from a bold wing to a fine lash line.

Why lash-line PMU changes over time

Eyelid skin is the thinnest on the face. Pigment spreads more easily here, especially if it was placed too deep or too heavily. Black pigment can take on a bluish tone over the years, and blurred borders make the eyes look heavier. It isn't the client's fault — this is how pigment behaves in thin, mobile skin.

Is it safe?

Yes, if the rules are followed. During the procedure your eyes are covered with protective shields or special goggles that block laser light. We direct the pulses away from the eye and treat only the pigment visible on the eyelid skin. We never use the laser on pigment on the mucous membrane.

We use the 1064 nm wavelength and conservative settings. On eyelids it's better to work carefully and add a session than to rush and take risks.

When to postpone the procedure

  • eye inflammation, conjunctivitis, a stye;
  • recent eye or eyelid surgery;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • a fresh tan on the area.

We discuss all contraindications at the consultation. If anything is in doubt, it's better to reschedule.

What a session looks like

  1. Assessment in good light: colour, depth and borders of the pigment.
  2. Contact lenses and makeup removed, skin prepared.
  3. Eye protection with shields or goggles.
  4. Laser treatment at 1064 nm — 5–10 minutes for both eyes.
  5. Cooling and aftercare advice.

It feels like quick snaps and warmth. Eyelid skin is thin, but the session is very short, so most clients tolerate it easily.

How many sessions

Usually 2–3, 4–6 weeks apart. A lash line often fades faster than brows because it holds less pigment. Wide, dense eyeliner or layered PMU may need more sessions.

After the procedure

  • mild eyelid swelling for 1–2 days is normal; a cold compress through a clean cloth helps;
  • no mascara, liner or eyeshadow for a week;
  • don't rub your eyes or handle lenses with unwashed hands;
  • no sauna, pool or sunbed for 5–7 days;
  • sunglasses on bright days.

More in the aftercare guide.

Laser or remover for eyelids

For lash line and eyeliner we usually choose the laser: the pigment here is almost always dark, and the remover on thin eyelid skin requires special care. We may suggest the remover for targeted work, for example a blurred liner tail or a warm remnant.

What's next

After removal you can get a new lash line or a neat eyeliner. We choose the thickness and shape to suit your eye shape, so the line enhances your look rather than weighing it down. This is done by the artists at ANITA SPACE, and you can see their work on the studio's Instagram.

FAQ

Can I wear contact lenses after the procedure?

It's best to wear glasses for 2–3 days. After that lenses are fine, but put them in and take them out only with clean hands and don't rub your eyelids.

Can the laser damage my lashes?

Not with correct technique. We treat the eyelid skin, not the lash line itself. Lashes may lighten temporarily if a pulse passes close, but that's rare.

Can lash-line pigment on the inner rim be removed?

We never use the laser on the mucous membrane — it's dangerous for the eye. We only treat what's visible on the skin.

When can I get a new lash line?

4–6 weeks after the last session, once the skin has fully recovered.

Send a daylight photo of your eyelids with your eyes open and closed. We'll see right away how far the pigment has spread and estimate the number of sessions.
